ThiswasthefirstregularlectureclassinJapanontheuniversitylevel.IttooksometimetospreadthemovementbutGenderStudieshasgrowntobecomepartoftheordinarycurriculumtoday.InthefieldofFamilySociology,therewerediscussionsbetweenthestatictheoryassumingfamilyasagroupversusthedynamictheoryassumingfamilyasasocialnetwork.AsmyPh.D.mentorwasaleadingsocialnetworkresearcherandIwasfortunatetousethesocialnetworktheoryformydissertation.Thisdecisionwascriticalfordevelopingmyfamilysociologyonthebasisofagenderperspective.Furthermore,mymentorsentmetoaspecialseriesofseminarsbythemostrespectedFamilySociologistonthetopicofthetheoryconstructionmethodologytomakesociologyascience.Absorbingsuchtransformativeknowledgegavemeconfidencetowardscontinuingmycommitmenttosociology,withaspecialfocusonfamilyandgender.TheindividualsastheunitofanalysisoffamilyandsocietywasnotnormativewhenIstartedmyacademiccareer,butitgainedlegitimacyasthefamilylifebecamevariedwaysofindividuallifestyleschanged.WithintheJapaneseacademia,theSocietyofFamilySociologywasthefirsttobecomeawareoftheneedforgenderperspectivesinfamilyresearch.Anothercareerisaroundadvocacytothegovernment,themedia,andthepublic,topromoteactioninordertoeradicatetheexistinggenderinequalityinJapan.AsalternaterepresentativeofJapanesegovernmenttotheUNGeneralAssemblyThirdCommitteein1994&95,Ilearnedhowmembernationswithdifferentinterests,discussandreachagreementonglobalItwasarareexperienceforanordinarycitizenandveryusefultoserveastherepresentativeofJapantotheUNCommissionontheStatusofWomen(1998-2010)andattendotherinternationalmeetings.Participationinsuchglobaldiscussionswasagoodresourceforunderstandingfactsaboutgenderequalityinmostcountrieswhichledtofindingnewandemergentissuesforresearch,agoodcaseofsynchronizationbetweenadvocacyandresearch.Also,Iwasabletoutilizetheexperiencein2019whenJapanbecametheG20Chair.Women(W)20JapanwasresponsiblefornegotiatingwiththeglobalmembersofW20todocumentitsrecommendationstopresenttotheG20ChairforreflectingW20’srecommendationsinG20LeadersDeclaration.Asaco-ChairofW20Japan,IrecallhavingusedtheUNmethodofnegotiationtofinishtheworkontime.ItwasamatterofsuccessorfailureandtheNatureblessedus.As the Representative of Japan to the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW）issues.16Thinkofandactforbuilding`TheWorldWeWant’AMessagefortheNextGeneration
