AsanundergraduateintheFacultyofForeignStudiesIstudiedSpanishlanguageandhistory,aswellasthepoliticaleconomyandcultureoftheSpanish-speakingworld.Myinterestincommunicationwhichwassparkedoffbylanguage,ledmetochooseaminorinlinguistics.AftergraduatingIjoinedNissanautomaker,whereIengagedinoverseassales,andlaterImovedtotheluxurybrandindustryinEuropeincludingtheLVMHGroup,whereIworkedonmarketingandbrandingforover20years.WhatIhaveconsistentlystrivenforiscommunicationthattranscendsnationality,race,gender,occupation,professionandposition,andwhichallowsmakingone’spointofviewcleartootherparties,inordertogaincooperationandsupport.Ofcourse,suchcommunicationstretchesbeyondlanguageskills,requiringdata-basedlogicalongwithstoriesthatcaptivatethelistenerwithhumanityandpassion.Inotherwords,itwouldbenoexaggerationtosaythatIhavetriedtodevotemyselftoimprovingmycommunicationskillsinalldirections.Evennow,themostimportantthingtomeaspresidentisdealingwithallstakeholdersinanhonestwayandbuildingadialogue.Asfortheemployees,Itrytovisitallbusinesssitesregularlyandtalkdirectlytothem.Mymeetingswithdifferentdepartmentsinvolvenotonlyexecutivesandmanagers,butnewemployeesarealsoinvitedtoshareinthedecision-makingprocess.Ialsovisitretailorsfrequentlytogetabettergraspofmarketandcustomerneeds.Throughtheactiveexchangeofinformationandopinionswiththetopmanagementofcompaniesinotherindustries,Iamalwayslookingforsupportandpartnersforcollaboration.Atgeneralshareholdermeetingsandfinancialresultbriefings,Iexplaininmyownwordsandmakeawholeheartedefforttowritethepresident’smessagefortheintegratedreport,shareholdernews,andothercommunications.IdothisbecauseIbelievethatsteadydialogueisindispensableforallstakeholderstobecomefansofbothS.T.CORPORATIONanditspresident.In2010,IjoinedS.T.CORPORATION,amanufacturerofdailyuseitems(FMCG)andbecamepresidentafterthreeyears.Atthetime,S.T.’ssalesweresluggishandprofitshadsteadilydeclined.Inthemidstoffiercepricecompetitioninthismarket,noeffortsweremadetoincreasethevalueofS.T.brandsandproducts,anddiscountswerethenorm.Thinkingthatimprovedprofitabilitywasanurgenttask,webeganbyraisingunitpricesthroughimprovingtheemotionalvalueofourproducts.Prioritywasshiftedfromattention-grabbingpackagesinvividcolorsandstrongoldfashionedfragrancestosophisticateddesignsandcomfortablearomas,thatalignwithdailylife.However,itwashardtogainanunderstandingofsuch“emotionalvalue”inanorganizationwherealmost100percentofthedecision-makersweremiddle-agedandelderlymen.Icollectedsamplesofimagesandfragrances,createdmyownmockups,andcreatedadialoguetoenablethemtogainanunderstandingaboutadifferentwayofthinking.AtthattimeIwaskeenlyawareoftheimportanceofcommunication.27ChairmanoftheBoard,President&CEO,ofS.T.CORPORATION.AftergraduatingfromtheFacultyofForeignStudiesofSophiaUniversityandmajoringinHispanicStudies,shejoinedNissanMotorCo.Ltd.,LVJGroupCo.Ltd.(currentlyLouisVuittonJapanCo.,Ltd.),andothercompanies,andin2010shejoinedS.T.CORPORATION.Shehasservedinhercurrentrolesince2013.CommunicationastheCoreofMyCareerDevelopmentDivingintoaMale-DominatedOrganizationinaDifferentKindofBusinessFromTakako SUZUKICommunication Skills I Have Gained at Sophia
