31Iamhonoredtobeinvolvedincreatingthiscurrentissuefocusedontheleadershipofwomen,astherolemodelseriesisoneIlovetoread.SinceIamcurrentlylostinthemazewecalllife,thewordsofthewriterstouchedmeassignposts,andIfeeltheywillguidemefromnowon.Atatimewhenwomenwereunabletobeasactiveintheircareersastheyaretoday,Icanimaginehowdifficultandpainfulthepathtowardsgainingachievementandexperiencesasleaders,musthavebeenforthem.Ifeeltheserolemodelsachievedsuchbrilliantresultspreciselybecausetheyhadtheirownsolidfoundationandgoals.Theybuiltrelationshipsoftrustwiththosearoundthem,evenwhiletraversingdifficultpaths.Ihopetograduallydrawclosertomyidealsbyconstantlykeepingmyradarsharp,andtakingoneventhesmallestofchallenges.Ihopetheaccountsinthiscollectionwillencourageallwhoreadthem.Ihaveservedasastudentpresidentandclassrepresentativeinthepast,butIhaveneverexperienceddifficultyasaleaderintheserolesbecauseofmygender.Yetintoday’ssociety,itisstilldifficultforwomentobecomeleadersortakeonactiveroles.Facedwiththisreality,Ihonestlyfeelconfused,doubtful,anduneasy.So,thethinkingandwayoflifeoftheserolesmodelscanprovideusstudentswithcourageandhope,aswecommencethenextstageofourlives.Keepingthemessagesofthesealumnaeinmyheart,Ihaveareneweddeterminationtoparticipateinsocietyonmyownterms.Ihopetheaccountsinthiscollectionofferahelpinghandtoreaders.Asastudentcurrentlyataturningpointinlife,Iwasdeeplymovedbythevaluablemessagesfromprofessorsandalumnaeworkinginvariousfields.Ialsofeeltheseaccountswillresonatewithmanypeopleregardlessofgender,asexamplesofpeoplemovingstronglythroughlife.Weliveinanagewhereallsortsoflifechoicesarebecomingpossibleforbothmenandwomen.Whilethisisindeedagoodthing,yetIthinkitalsomakesithardtochooseone’spath,one’splaceofbelonging,andone’sresponsibilities,outofthevastamountsofinformationavailabletous.ThatiswhyIhopethedifferenttypesoflivesdescribedinthiscollectionwillserveasanimpetusformanystudents.Finally,Iwishtoexpressmysinceregratitudetoallwhocooperatedwiththiseffort.Beinginvolvedwiththisproductionasastudentwasaverymeaningfulexperienceforme.(fromleft)AngelaKim(DepartmentofJournalism,FacultyofHumanities)HiyoriHashino(DepartmentofInternationalLegalStudies,FacultyofLaw)AyaTakeuchi(DepartmentofSociology,FacultyofHumanSciences)TAKEUCHIHASHINOKIMStudentStaffOfficeofSophiaSustainabilityPromotionEditorNotes
