The Mentoring System
We are considering a mentoring system that would support women researchers and women college students studying and conducting research in the Faculty of Science & Technology.
Mentoring sessions will be held by alumni and there will also be mentoring sessions by overseas researchers. (Global Mentoring System).
Mentoring for students.
The student mentoring system would have graduate students mentoring undergraduates, answering questions on future careers, choosing a supervising professor, class work, and so on. Graduate students could give advice as relatively close role models to undergraduates.
Questions can either be submitted by e-mail, or they can seek advice from mentors in person, utilizing the “common” space. The students looking for advice will be able to choose the manner for interaction. We are also planning events such as lectures sponsored by the Program to support Women Researchers.
Students who serve as mentors will be given training by professionals (psychological counselors). The participating graduate mentors will work on a voluntary basis.

Global Mentoring System.
The Global Mentoring System will make use of the international network Sophia University is known for. The aim will be to nurture women researchers capable of working in an international environment. Researchers will be encouraged through lectures on international research activities and encounters with many researchers. The aim is to give emotional and academic support, as well as to provide concrete role models for young women, who will, in the future, be willing to provide help to the younger generations. We also plan to offer valuable opportunities for women who have gone overseas to do post-doctoral work.
Sophia graduates doing research work overseas and in foreign-affiliate companies, as well as researchers from other countries will be asked to register as global mentors. Mentoring activities will take place via e-mail.
Sophia will also be calling on foreign-affiliate companies and science foundations to ask for lectures aimed at giving women a better idea of how to make the most of global career opportunities. Not only will these parties be asked to answer questions, but also to give women ideas of what sort of careers they are capable of achieving. We would like them to use the mentoring systems to help women realize their full potential.
